As a sailor in the maritime industry, I have always wanted to spend more time on land, and driving across the country visiting national parks has been on the bucket list for a long time. First, I had to select a new car. This is my first Subaru and I couldn’t be happier.
Yellowstone National Park was top priority on my 2016 trip and it proved both exciting and overwhelming. Another favorite site: the Tetons slowly rising on the horizon as I headed south on Rt. 89. It was a spectacular day, sun shining on the snow with a light breeze jostling the yellow aspens.
Zion, Bryce Canyon National Park and Canyonlands National Park were next, followed by Colorado National Monument, Moab, Saddlehorn and the Gateway Arch National Monument. My mom joined me midway and we continued east to Great Smoky Mountains National Park.
All told, I visited 11 national parks, three national monuments and one national historical site in 52 days – with the magnets to prove it!
