It’s hard to believe that the Subaru Forester has been providing secure, confident transportation, no matter the weather, for 20 years now. Since 1998, through four distinct generations, the Forester has been the go-to compact SUV for couples and small families.

For 2019, the Subaru Forester undergoes a transformation. Subaru engineers’ goal was to maintain where the Forester stood head and shoulders above the competition and deliver a vehicle that wows owners with design, space management, driving characteristics and passenger comfort. “We wanted to take everything that makes a Forester a Forester and move it to the next level,” says Todd Hill, Subaru of America Carline Planning Manager. “It’s the third vehicle on the Subaru Global Platform, which debuted on the 2017 Impreza, followed by the 2018 Crosstrek. Like those vehicles, you’ll find that the Forester exhibits exceptional stiffness, quietness, tightness and, overall, an impressive ride. Most importantly, the greater rigidity and strength translate to outstanding safety.”

Driver Monitoring System

If the system senses either, it alerts the driver with visual and audible signals, but it also allows EyeSight1 to react faster to a potential accident situation. “We made EyeSight standard on all Forester models,” says Hill. “In addition, we’ve added a Driver Monitoring System,2 which will be standard on all Touring models.” One of the first systems of its kind in the U.S. market, it looks for signs of inattention of drowsiness. “It also recognizes different drivers and adjusts the seat, exterior mirrors and climate preferences instantly.”

SUBARU BOXER engine's lower center of gravity improved handling.

The 2.5 liter, 182-hp direct-injection SUBARU BOXER four-cylinder engine has a lower center of gravity than a traditional inline engine. This improves handling and helps the Forester feel more stable than other compact SUVs.

The 2019 Forester interior is defined by high-quality materials that offer a premium feel, while staying true to the utility for which Forester is known.

Subaru STARLINK Multimedia

SUBARU STARLINK Multimedia connects you to music, navigation, podcasts and much more. “Even base vehicles will have SiriusXM All Access Radio, a CD player and HD Radio®, along with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto,” says Hill. “The Harman Kardon audio upgrade is huge, and the TomTom® navigation system is designed for ease of use.”

2019 Forester cargo area

The biggest – literally – news for the 2019 Forester is in the cargo area. Not only will the vehicle offer impressive space, but the cargo hatch opening is huge, making access to the cargo area easy.

2019 Forester features more room in the back seat

The 2019 Forester features subtle design changes, like additional rear leg room. And the angle at which the rear door opens makes the rear seats easy to enter and exit.

Outside, models like the Forester Sport feature bold styling and strong contrasting colors.

The Forester is based on the Subaru Global Platform, which provides exceptional stiffness. For passengers, that means that the Forester is stable and quiet on the road. “The new platform offers a significant improvement in crash energy absorption, making a safe vehicle even safer,” says Hill.
